Is it Easy to Make a Will?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Don t leave your loved ones with additional expense and complications.
Individuals who die without an up to date will, or intestate, leave costs and worry to their family and often gift thousands of pounds to the Nation in what may be avoidable Inheritance Tax (IHT).

The Law Society says that anyone with possessions and family or friends should make a will, disregarding of their years. It is specially important if you are not married to your partner, because the law does not give partners the same rights automatically of inheritance as spouses.
Assets which are owned jointly by unmarried partners on a joint tenancy basis would still go to automatically to the surviving partner under the rules of survivorship. Under the current intestacy rules, an unmarried partner has no rights to property and assets that were not jointly owned (although the Law Commission has recently proposed to change this).

Creating a will is also vital if you have kids, as you can appoint guardians to look after them.

It is critical to produce a list of assets and debts and their approximate values. Include your properties, investments, savings, insurance policies and pension.
In addition, think about personal bequests. Merely informing a relative that an item will be his or hers one day could cause problems later.

You should receive professional advice on IHT planning as part of writing your will. Simple steps could save the beneficiaries of richer householders thousands of pounds in tax.

A vital component of creating a will is the naming of executors to make sure that your will wishes are executed.

You should also your will every five years or so and whenever your situation are altered by a significant life event, such as wedding, divorce or a birth or death in the close family. Another instance would be after a house purchase or move.

Whoever draws up your will, make sure at least one copy is kept safe or deposit 1 with a probate registry.

Protecting Young Drivers: Some Tips for Parents

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Sash windows are associated with the architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries. Their popularity stemmed from their larger panes of glass and more elegant proportions than casement windows.

Their origin has almost certainly been traced back to Yorkshire in England. They were developed there to keep out wet weather while permitting air to circulate by leaving a narrow opening, and were also protected from rot and distortion by being closed in a box.

There were both functional and aesthetic advantages to Sash windows, and many people chose to replace their old windows with them, while they were also popular in newly built homes. During the mid 18th century the introduction of the window tax caused many windows to be removed.During the Georgian era, sash windows became what they are today, with the development of the two moving sashes. Glass was still expensive and marked with central bull’s eyes by the manufacture process. Once larger panels became available the classic six-paned Georgian windows appeared..

Sash windows continued to be popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, although carved and molded decorations were commonly added to them. Victorian houses often have large bay windows and elegantly proportioned facades with the windows getting gradually smaller as their height from the ground increases. Sashes with four panes of glass are another mark of the Victorian window. Imitations of older style windows were also popular towards the end of the 19th century, as the wealthy sought to differentiate themselves from the previously prized plate glass and narrow glazing bars that had became more affordable.

During the 20th century, sash windows have tended to disappear from our streets, being replaced by cheaper, mass-produced windows. Demand has recently grown again due to increased awareness of architectural history. Sash windows today use all the latest technology, but retain the elegance and functionality of traditional sashes, and preserve the historic style of the older houses.

Selecting a Driving Teacher: Some Important Advice

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

When learning to drive it’s essential that you choose a competent instructor. It is important you get the best advice and are as well prepared as possible before you hit the open road.Endeavour to find a good, professional instructor. Choosing a good instructor is essential to learning to become a good driver. In the UK any instructor should be registered with the Driving Standards Agency. The instructors that are not registered with the Driving Standards Agency, can not charge you for their services. Registered instructors are known as Approved Driving Instructors (ADI’s).

A good instructor will teach you all aspects of driving. This includes motorway driving, parallel parking, emergency stopping, hill starts and much more. Recent driving surveys indicates that a student driver that was taught how to drive with an Approved Driving Instructor pass their driving test the first time, unlike those who have not practice with an Approved Driving Instructor. The green certificated issued to any ADI is usually displayed in the instructors cars windscreen. A trainee who is being trained to become an Approved Driving Instructor, will have a pink certificate on their windscreen. The DSA has rigourous standards and tests to pass before approving any prospective instructor. Before being allowed to instruct you any trainee must pass a comprehensive driving test and have a clean license for 4 years beforing being approved.

A good qualified instructor should help you pass the test with ease. Remember car insurance is mandatory and can be expensive. A new type of cheap young driver insurance is Pay as you drive insurance. This insurance works by charging you a milegae rate with costs being much higher for the most dangerous times such as the middle of the night.

My Search for Albuquerque Costmetic Dentist

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

It all began with what I thought was a simple tooth ache, but it turned out to be a much worse problem. I commenced my search looking for a cosmetic dentist in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I started my search in the Phone Book, but shortly saw that I would be best suited on the Internet. Ask.com was a exceptional start. I also found several survey web sites that mentioned certain dentist with strengths that I was searching for. I was able to read what other people had said about the dentists. Some had negative reviews and some had splendid reviews.

After much research, I decided to go with James Zimmer, DDS in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was cordial and so was his staff. I felt at ease with his degree of expertise. He seemed really educated about my condition. It turns out my simple tooth ache was going to require more than just a filling. I needed a root canal. My first thought was that I wasn?t going to be able to afford such a procedure. Then Dr. James Zimmer, DDS told me about a financing option he had available to his patients. The financing is interest free for 1 year and the monthly payments were low-priced.

This left me with some room in my budget to afford the porcelain crowns that I always wanted. My teeth came out beautifully and I?m much more confident about my smile now. The only regret that I have is that I didn?t find Doctor James Zimmer DDS earlier. I highly recommend Doctor James Zimmer DDS and his cosmetic dentistry services.

Bi Fold Doors for Flexiblity and a Quality Look

Monday, December 21st, 2009

In the past the only choice when one replaced their windows and did not want to use wood was grey aluminium. The upshot of this are many esthetically spoiled period homes with windows which are now a fire hazard because they openings are too narrow to escape through.

Then they became available in white PVCu which were firstly cheap and of poor quality and poor design but which went on to become the excellent quality they are today and designed to suit the house not the pocket.

House owners now have a much better choice of door and window materials and styles to choose from.

For numerous years, there has been a very big market for patio doors, which offer convenience and allow light and air into a home whilst providing a very effective heat barrier when shut. Patio doors have recently made way for the “Rolls Royce in this market which is now the hugely flexible Bifold patio door. Anyone thinking of buying patio doors now should first consider whether they could step-up their investment to a bifolding door.

When closed Bifold doors behave as a glass partiton permitting great views of the garden or outside scene. The whole wall can be effectively removed by opening the whole doors seamlessly incorporating the room into the outdoor space. Alternatively, they can serve to expand available space in restricted areas, such as providing inclusion of a balcony to form part of a small flat on a fair day or brightening up an otherwise gloomy corner.

Fully opened, the doors concertina and store compactly to left, right or both sides to limit their intrusion. If full opening is not required the doors can configured as french style doors or even as a single opening door.

Specialist Bifold Door companies offer the product in hardwood, PVCu, aluminium and aluminium clad timber in a wide range of finishes and colours. Although costly, aluminium clad timber, provides you the timber finish inside and the choice of colours and low maintenance options provided by aluminium cladding.

What to Do if You Can’t Pay Your Mortgage in Spain

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

If you are like many people today, you may be having trouble making ends meet or are living paycheck to paycheck. This often leads to homeowners defaulting on their mortgage, and defaulting on a mortgage for a primary or secondary residence can have serious repercussions for the homeowner. These consequences vary by state, province, and country, so you must be sure to completely understand them.

Defaulting on a Spanish mortgage, for example, has very specific consequences. In the past, such defaulting used to be very simple. This was especially true if the homeowner was not a Spanish citizen and the home was a vacation home or second residence. But now Spanish banks have become more aggressive about enforcing mortgage terms for all homeowners, even non-Spanish citizens.

If you find yourself unable to avoid defaulting on your mortgage in Spain, the bank may agree to take the home back. This simple option will save the homeowner a lot of money in court costs and additional interest on the home loan. But although this is an option, it must first be discussed with the bank. The bank is under no obligation to let you out of the mortgage by taking the home back. Homeowners that have a true hardship as a reason for defaulting on a Spanish mortgage will likely be more successful in negotiating a home turnover. If your spouse dies or your income has dropped due to another cause that is no fault of your own, the bank may consider that a valid hardship and allow you to turn in your keys to the home.

If despite your attempts to negotiate a home turnover, the bank refuses your offer, you must then sell your home. Try to get a final sale price that will cover the remaining amount on your Spanish mortgage or one that will come as close as possible to paying it off, as the bank will still expect the full amount from you in any case. The bank will be most likely to aggressively pursue you for a large shortfall on the Spanish mortgage. However, the bank can legally pursue the homeowner for any shortfall amount at all. This includes placing liens on any assists you may have, such as investment portfolios, your primary residence, and any other property you own that has value. Although it may take years to collect on the shortfall by going through the court systems, the bank that holds your Spanish mortgage will not give up until they do.

Even if defaulting on your Spanish mortgage is inevitable, you should work with the bank as much as possible as soon as you know you must default. Working with the bank that holds your Spanish mortgage can result in a fair settlement that benefits both you and the bank with as little impact on your other assets or financial holdings as possible.

Snuggle-Worthy Personalized Gifts for Baby

Friday, November 6th, 2009

If you are looking to welcome a new little one into the world, personalized gifts make a memorable impression when presented at a baby shower, in the hospital, or at a sip-n-see. Baby blankets make the most snuggle-worthy personalized gifts for newborns and infants and, honestly, a baby cannot have too many baby blankets.

Often perceived as a “practical” gift, you can add a dose of personalized panache by choosing a baby blanket that can be customized with an initial, monogram or name. A must-have part of the layette, the size, shape, style and function of baby blankets run the gamut - who knew!? Utilitarian receiving blankets, constructed of soft cotton flannel, are always nearby a newborn in his first few months of life. Some receiving blankets are made of a cotton-knit waffle weave to add a stretch making it easy to swaddle baby. For the indoctrinated, swaddling is a time-honored way of teaching a baby to self-sooth and sleep by snuggly wrapping him up like a burrito in a blanket. Receiving blankets make a welcomed choice as personalized gifts for baby, so helpful for creating warmth, serving as an impromptu changing pad or providing the mother modesty while nursing.

Of course, there are many fancier options in baby blankets for the gift giver looking to make an extravagant gesture. Lavish additions to the layette include swanky chenille or fleece blankets that are oh-so-soft to touch and trimmed with satin. Available in the requisite pinks and blues, but you’ll also find these personalized gifts in almost every color of the rainbow — and animal prints to go wild for as well. So perfect for those afternoon walks in the park with baby all tucked into his stroller.

Personalized baby blankets will become an instant keepsake, a treasure from childhood that every mother will want to tuck away in a trunk or memory box. Elgantly embroidered, these personalized gifts showcase baby’s new name or initials. To be used for bundling, swaddling, wrapping, baby blankets may even be dragged along the floor during the toddler years for security.

This brings us to another type of baby blanket that can be given as personalized gifts - a “luvie”. A luvie, also known as a security blanket” is a cute little blanket that features lots of soft, silky satin (that is so tactilely soothing) and sometimes even a little stuffed animal face on the top. These security blankets can also be embroidered with a child’s name and make sweet personalized gifts for baby to hug. A word of advice; when giving luvies, make sure to give two identical versions of these personalized gifts in case one tragically gets lost.

Use Tablecloths when You Celebrate the Holiday

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

An assortment of holidays are celebrated every year by people world-wide. A set of decorations will be used for each of the holiday seasons. Many a home also has a different set of table linens made up of holiday tablecloths, table napkins, place mats, table skirts and chair covers. The linens are brought out yearly for that holiday.

An ideal example of a holiday season is Thanksgiving. Everything is focused on the third Thursday in November and the big traditional feast of turkey, stuffing, vegetables, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, rolls and pumpkin pie. Thanksgiving tablecloths are, for the most part, fashioned with the fall season in mind. Autumn Leaves, Falling Leaves and Fall Festival are all good print options for Thanksgiving tablecloths. Solid colored linen napkins and placemats that complement the pattern on the holiday tablecloths can be used to complete the look. The solid colors selected for the table linens are likely be yellow, orange or brown.

Christmas is the #1 holiday that people decorate their home for. In most cases, decorations are proudly displayed on the interior and exterior of the house. Many people use traditional Christmas tablecloths in either solid red or green while others may opt for holiday tablecloths that have been imprinted with a Christmas theme. If you use whimsical holiday tablecloths with prints such as Santa, Christmas Music and Christmas Ornaments, you will surely trigger childhood memories of Christmas past. If you are looking to celebrate in a more formal style then consider holiday tablecloths with a print like Seasons Greetings. A design of poinsettias, Christmas bells, holly and berries have been woven into a damask fabric to make this tablecloth’s print. Be sure to step things up a notch and use linen table skirts, chair coverings and napkins.

The Fourth of July is a summertime observance in the United States that marks our independence as a nation. Across the county, people celebrate with barbeques and firework displays. People will be dining outside during this holiday. Medium weight vinyl tablecloths are an ideal choice for this venue. The vinyl is laminated to a heavy polyester backing making it the best option for protecting outside furniture. Perhaps just as importantly, a messy barbecue spill can be easy to wipe clean off of a vinyl tablecloth. Choose vinyl tablecloths in navy blue, red or white and decorate the tables with a festive centerpiece that marks the occasion.

You’ll want to be sure to select holiday tablecloths that accentuate your home’s interior because you will most likely be using them for years to come. Take time. Shop around. If you can’t find what you are looking for from a local store then buy your holiday tablecloths via the internet. Linen tablecloths, whether they be solid colored or theme printed, will surely make your holiday decorations stand out.
