Advantages of an Online Site Builder

Friday, August 29th, 2008

There are numerous choices when it comes to building web sites. One of the first choices you will have to make is whether to use an online or offline site builder.

Site Builders

Site builders can be divided into two categories, online and offline. An online site builder creates a web site with web forms over the Internet. With an online site builder, there is no need to install any special software. You only need an Internet browser.

An offline site builder is a program that you install on a computer from a disc or a download. This type of site builder requires that a site is first built on the computer with the software, then uploaded, often with a separate piece of software.

Location, Location, Location

A good online site builder has several advantages over an offline site builder. For starters, and online site builder is always there regardless of where you are accessing the Internet. You can easily work with it from home, the office or on the road. With an offline builder, you need to be on the Internet, have the builder software installed and usually have a separate FTP program installed. From this perspective, an online site builder is clearly the better choice.

Users - Get Off My Cloud

In selecting a builder, one should keep in mind the number of people who will be working on the site. If there are more than two, chaos can ensue with an offline builder. Building a site requires some tedious work. Nothing is more frustrating than uploading changes only to discover you were updating a version of the page that subsequently has been updated by others working on the site. Many a new cussword has been created in such instances.

An online site builder almost always allows for multiple users and, by definition, always contains the updated version of pages. This simple aspect limits confusion and helps avoid duplication of work. Admittedly, it cuts down on the creation of new cusswords, but we must all sacrifice something.

Other Advantages:

1. Online site builders often use databases to store web site information rather than separate files for every page. This makes web sites much more scalable in the long run and allows for different sorting techniques.

2. Good online site builders will also be backed-up on a daily basis, so your work is always double protected. Not all online site builders provide backups, so make sure the site builder you choose does.

3. Online site builders also generally offer a selection of templates to use that make it a lot easier to build sites.

Instead of having to create the entire site, many online site builders allow you to focus solely on the content of your site and do not require you to learn HTML.

Online site builder are usually easy to use, don’t require much computer experience, are portable and can save you time. Before you build a site, it is worth your time to consider your online site builder options.

Time for a Change

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Do you feel that you can successfully lose weight? Do you feel that you can do it in the next couple of weeks? You can, I did, but what is the key to success? It is to start eating differently.

You can crack the fat loss code with out pills without going on a low fat or low carb diet. YOu need to change the way that you think about food. You need to change the way you look at food and how you eat.

By looking at what you eat and when you can take a look at what does not work. If it does not work then what do you need to do? You need to fix it and make some changes.

I have tried every diet on the market. I have tried the low fat diets. Those just made me crave fat even more. I have tried the low calorie diets and that did not help to move the scale. So I decided that I needed to try the low carb diet. The only thing that I got from that was a lack of energy. Nothing worked.

So what should I do? I know that I need to crack the fat loss code. I need to find the program that will work for my lifestyle. With two little boys I need energy. I need to make sure that am eating healthy because I want to teach them to eat healthy. Now I need to figure out what is going to work for me.

What’s Next? A Guide to Marketing Your New Business

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Coming up with an idea, seizing the opportunity, and setting up a business was the relatively easy part. Now you are ready for the challenge of finding your customers, or at least make it easy for your customers to find you. Here are some tips for marketing your new and growing business.

Know & Understand your Customers

Find out or decide who your customers will be. Then find out as much as possible about them. Consider the needs of customers, and make sure your business or product fulfils those needs. Look at factors such as where they live, their age, their gender, how much they earn, their interests and pastimes. Detailed knowledge of your customers will help you to be more precise in your marketing.

Reach your Customers

There are many different types of media out there. Choose and use a media that you know will reach your target audience, and is preferred by them.

Consider approaching newspapers and magazines if you feel you have a good story, ideally involving a reference to your business, a planned event, or a special offer. Convey a message that will be of value to the reader and editor - this will promote interest in you and your business/product at the same time. Avoid blatant advertising.

If you are limited to, or looking to target local audiences in a specific geographical area, consider producing flyers and placing adverts in shop windows.

Television and radio advertising are the more expensive methods, and are designed to reach audiences on a mass scale. However, the returns are normally very small in comparison to the expense.

Highlight your Benefits

Most customers will focus on the value and convenience of choosing your product or service, before they will consider the actual features of that product or service. Therefore, it is important for your marketing campaign to concentrate on selling the benefits, before the features. Features are best marketed when linked directly to a great benefit.

For example, a small business selling their own brand of home computers would make a greater first impact by focusing less on features such as 2.3Ghz processors, 1GB RAM, 100GB Hard Disk, and 128MB Graphics cards, and focus more on the benefits of ‘faster performance’, ‘ideal for multitasking’, ‘plenty of storage’ and ‘great for games and photo editing’.

Use the Internet

Of all the available mediums, the Internet puts businesses on the most equal footing. Your image and appearance on the Internet represents your business - this can be understated and straight-to-the-point, or it can be flashy and highly interactive. It is best that it matches your style of business, but you are not restricted if you wish to invest in making a big splash.

The Internet should be used to support your other forms of marketing, unless your business is specifically suited to the online market. If you are able to create a website for your business, do so as soon as possible. If you cannot do this yourself, pay for someone to create one for you, as it will be a worthy investment if used correctly.

Use other methods, such as joining newsgroups or forums related to your business or product, sign up to business networking communities, give free advice and answer questions. It will attract others to your offering (as everyone wants something for free), while building trust in you and confidence in your product and expertise.

Avoid using these for blatant advertising, unless the forum specifies that this is acceptable. Otherwise, you may be asked to leave and your reputation could be damaged in that field.

Be Consistent

Unless you have a product or service that everyone needs and no one else offers, your marketing efforts will need to be ongoing. Your audience needs to hear about you and your offering over and over again before they are ready to acknowledge and accept you. Therefore, be consistent with your marketing methods.

Avoid deviating dramatically between mediums, as this can confuse customers, or cause you to lose others who only focus on one of your selected mediums.

Make sure you know how much, and how often you can spend, when working out your marketing budget. Don’t plough money into campaigns that you cannot afford to maintain. For example, an expensive, one-page spread in a glossy magazine will look nice and catch the eye, but unless you can afford to do this every week or month, the readers will quickly forget you. Choose a method that you can afford to repeat as often as is necessary to get yourself noticed (i.e.: flyers, local adverts, attending networking events). Otherwise, you may find that your marketing budget is used up before you’ve made an impact.

Measure & Review your Campaigns

Make sure you are able to measure the outcomes of your efforts. Items for measurement could be sales, number of enquiries, number of new clients, level of customer spend per occasion, for example. If you choose to run a campaign in a publication, consider adding a reference number to the piece, requiring the customer to quote this reference when contacting you. If using contact forms on a website, request the customer advise you on how they heard about you.

For each marketing campaign you undertake, use your chosen measurement tools to assess the effectiveness of that campaign. This will help you to refine your future efforts to get the best results. Even when you think you have perfected your campaigns, continue to review on a regular basis to accommodate any changes in the market and its buying behaviour.

Marketing is important to every business, and when used appropriately for your chosen customers, the returns can be very rewarding. Consider these tips when putting together the basis of your marketing plan.

What People Need To Know About Dog Behavior

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

As the old adage goes, “Dogs are man’s best friend.” However, there are times when people just couldn’t understand why their beloved dogs behave in a different manner. Hence, it is extremely important to know the underlying reasons why dogs sometimes behave differently.

In fact, man could teach his dog the most appropriate behavior. Experts say that dog behaviors can be controlled through proper training.

Dog behaviors are actually responses that are mostly triggered by environmental and social factors. Hence, to control these responses, the owner should teach his dogs the proper way to respond to such elements.

Dog Bite

Statistics show that almost 5 million people in the U.S. are victims of dog bites annually. This is almost 2% of the total population in the U.S. What’s more, dog bites cases rank as second most common cause of emergencies in the hospitals.

So, the question is: Why dogs bite?

According to the experts, the main reasons why dogs may bite are the following:

1. Excitement

When somebody plays with his or her dog, the tendency of the dog is to get excited, and because dogs don’t have hands to use when playing, they have the tendency to use their mouth to grasp things. When this happens, there is the tendency that the dog might accidentally hurt people.

2. Protection

Dogs can be very possessive, so, whenever he wants to protect something that he owns, he will bite whoever threatens to take it away from him. Hence, when people get near the dog’s property, the dog’s tendency is to bite to make the person leave his property alone.

3. Pain

When the dog is not feeling well, he does not understand why he is feeling that way. Therefore, when a person, even if it’s his master, touches him, he may think that it’s the person who causes the pain and so his tendency is fight back by biting.

4. Fear

Dogs get fear too. That is why when somebody startles him, the dog’s only known protection for itself is to bite back.

So, the best thing to avoid these situations is to leave the dog alone. The problem with so many people is that they have this tendency to always play around with their dogs without learning how and when the dogs should be left alone.

Like humans, dogs have feelings too. When these feelings are all mixed up, their only known protection for themselves is to bite because they cannot understand the situation logically. Therefore, people should know that in order to avoid such circumstances.

As they say, it really pays to know everything.

Self-Care

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

“Taking Care of Yourself at Home and Abroad.”

When last did you really take care of yourself? I am not surprised to find out that generally people do not because they think it is selfish and self-indulgent.This could not be further from the truth. My experiences have shown me that when I do take care of myself in the ways that I need to, it is only then that I am truly capable of being of real service to someone else. As expats it can tough where you are. Where to go, what to do and how to go about it? It’s often a struggle just surviving in a foreign environment, right? Well, the good news is that self-care is not something that requires money, venues and elaborate plans.

There are many ways in which you can take care of yourself whether you are at home or abroad. I have listed 10 below. As a success plan for the week, how about choosing 3 tips from the list and put them into practice everyday. Be aware of how it affects your relationships with others. You might just discover that by indulging and taking care of yourself, you are in fact enabling yourself to help others by just being YOU. It is also very possible that it could add another perspective to your life and create new dimensions to your adventures abroad.

Self-care Ideas:

Voice you feelings. Don’t keep them inside you. Share your accomplishments or disappointments with someone you trust. Remember that when you express your feelings, it is then that you can change them.

Take time to play. Play is any activity that makes you feel good. You not only deserve it, it is essential to a balanced state of well-being.

Do not compare yourself with others. This kind of jealousy causes self-disgust. Do not think others are better than you. If there is someone you admire, use them as a model to improve yourself.

Learn to say no. When you become more comfortable with saying no to others you will find that your self-esteem improves. When you then choose to say yes to others, you will want to and you will feel great and energised by your choice.

Exercise. Go for a walk. Ride a bike. Take the stairs. You don’t need to go to a fancy gym to break a sweat. There is nothing like some physical activity to help shift yourself from a mood of despair to one of hope.

Remember you are only a human being doing your best . Don’t let others put you high up on a pedestal. When this happens they expect you to be perfect and they feel angry and disappointed when you let them down.

Please remember to laugh, laugh at everything, especially at yourself. Try it! It is the cheapest and most effective form of medicine for life.

Practice being an encouraging and kind person. Find 2 people today you can help out in this way. When you do this, you will not only feel amazing, but it will kick up your self-esteem a notch or two.

Take up a hobby. What is one thing you have always wanted to try out? It could be oil painting, learning a foreign language, taking flying lessons … the list is endless. Creativity helps you unleash a sense of enthusiasm and zest for life.

Put time aside for your spiritual life. Slow down. Practice sitting quietly. When thoughts crop up, acknowledge them but do not pay attention to them. Be still. Be courageous and if a traditional religion has not been helpful for you follow your own spiritual path.

“Self care is empowering. When you implement any healthy practice into your routine, you are taking charge of your life. You are the expert on your needs, and if you don’t acknowledge their importance who will?” The Case For Self Care, By Jennifer Snyder, Jan 28, 2003

First Time Home Buyers, A Better Way to Buy

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Your Real Estate Agent

Find an agent you can work with and someone who will work with you. Many agents will try to make the quick sale and before you arrive at their office they will pick 10 to 12 homes, encourage you to cut the list down to 5 or 6 take you out to see them and try to sell you one. How about something different. Meet the agent at their office go through a 20 to 30 minute interview. Work with the agent to determine what it is you are looking for and expect as a minimum in your new home. Have the agent enter your criteria into a VIP Buyer data base where the agent will send you daily emails with homes that meet your specifications. You drive around these neighborhoods without the agent you get the true feeling for the area and you decide if that area is good enough for you. When you have found the right neighborhood you bring the agent out to show you the home you picked. You’re in charge not the agent.

Mortgage Pre-approval

This process is part of the agent interview you can go online or complete a phone call application with the mortgage company prior to meeting the agent. In any case pre approval is the first step in what price home you can look for.
Start with a pre approval on a standard 30 year or 40 year fixed rate loan this will be your base. Having a conservative more realistic starting point will allow you to stretch for a more expensive home if you chose. By not by starting out with ARM or interest only you have a room for the extras when you compare houses. As an example; if a 30 year fixed mortgage allows you to buy a $130,000 home and the ARM will let you get into a $145,000 home and the interest only gets you a $160,000 home you have the choice you know where you stand. Remember this is your first house of many more through for your life time.

Stretch or Not to Stretch

You are pre approved and found the right neighborhood. How much do you want to spend? You know what the mortgage company will allow you, but will that still leave you money to go on the summer vacation each year, weekend getaways, New Years Eve in Times Square? Will you be able to furnish the new home the way you want to or will you have to wait or start racking up credit card charges? This is where the big question comes, if you stretch and stretch too far and something happens like a job loss, sickness, company downsizing no promotions or raises that you will need because next year your mortgage payment will increase what do you do? Things can happen and do happen to good people everyday. That’s just something to consider.

There are thousands of houses to choose from in every marketplace. Pick the one that fits you best, pick the one you can afford this year and next year along with all the other things you want to do.

Developing Successful Demonstrations

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

SUCCESSFUL DEMONSTRATIONS: All of us have seen demonstrations in one form or another. Some were more successful than others. The successful demonstration is a wonderful bridge between training and on-the-job performance because it allows the trainee to see the concept at work, actually accomplishing the task at hand. No claim of a vacuum cleaner’s power, for example, is as telling as the sight of a spotless rug after a demonstration. However, nothing punctures that same claim faster than a demonstration that goes awry. Keep in mind that a demonstrations can serve as very powerful instructional techniques, able to promote learning and long-term retention in a single bound, but they can also easily be confusing failures, inhibiting learning and doing nothing but frustrating the learner.

A SUCCESSFUL DEMONSTRATION: While nothing can guarantee that a demonstration will function as planned, there are certain strategies which can put the odds in your favor. I suggest that you keep in mind the purposes of demonstrations, which are to: –illustrate a procedure –show how to perform an act (psychomotor skill) –outline the results of an action or series of actions –clarify the consequences of failure to perform properly –involve more than one sense (thereby increasing retention) –provide opportunity to learn by doing.

DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE AND PRODUCTIVE DEMONSTRATIONS: 1. Identify the behaviors, skills, techniques or results that are to be demonstrated. 2. Identify the material, supplies, or equipment needed, and have adequate quantities on hand. 3. Identify the subskills of the demonstration so they may be discussed as the demonstration progresses. 4. Practice the demonstration in advance to make sure it achieves its purpose. 5. Ensure that the room is adequate for the demonstration.

DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE AND PRODUCTIVE DEMONSTRATIONS: 1. Identify potential distractions and reduce or eliminate them. 2. Choose the seating arrangement that allows everyone to see the demonstration clearly. 3. Tell the trainees what you’re going to do. Prepare them to observe critically. 4. Discuss the sub-skills involved in the task as you demonstrate. The easiest way to build a house, or a skill, is piece by piece. 5. Maximize the learning by having the trainees practice procedures, skills, and techniques. Then evaluate their performances.

Closet Organizers as Mental Peace

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

One of the best things in life is to be able to be organized. One of the ways of achieving that in your own house is to purchase closet organizers. They are basically furniture accessories that may be as small as a shoe box, but that make a very big difference in the appearance and overall organization of your closet. The majority of closet organizers though come equipped to serve and host almost every ingredient of a closet. They have spaces for placing all the way from fancy shoes to small items such as silk handkerchiefs.

Those that have not encountered peace within their closet, should definitely seek closet organizers to make their lives easier. Nowadays, people have less time for chores and home time, therefore, having your closet organized saves time, and time means money nowadays. Others may just want to purchase closet organizers to help them think clearly. The psychology and psychiatry literature has shown that it is common for people to seek mental clarity through home organization. It has been shown to lower anxiety, help with concentration and even improve their quality of life through improved interpersonal skills. Sometimes, small details have a great impact in people’s life such as closet organizers.

Blackberry Patent Woes: A Boon for Pocket PC Gamers?

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Things are looking a bit gloomy for the Blackberry, PDA cousin to the Pocket PC.

The latest appeal over a patent dispute has been turned down, making an injunction against selling the Blackberry in the US all the more possible.

I’ve always thought that if you did your research and opted to purchase one of these devices, you weren’t interested in much besides its contact management features.

It really doesn’t pack the required processing oomph for games.

To play devil’s advocate, the Pocket PC is really not the ideal vehicle for e-mail on the run if you happen to reside in the Greater Toronto Area.

I’ve mentioned this in passing in my October 4 blog entry, but data GPRS plans in Toronto happen to be extremely cost-prohibitive.

Coupled with increasing gas prices, you really don’t to siphon your budget by doing Pocket Outlook sends and receives on the run unless you have a few hot spots handy.

Fortunately, Starbucks is mimicking our Second Cup franchise by offering free Wi-Fi access after trundling behind the technology curve for Starbucks locations in the States.

It’s not often that Canada is behind the US technology curve, especially as the greater majority of Canadians are internet savvy.

That probably accounts for the greater prevalence of software piracy.

Nevertheless, as dim as things may look for the Canadian Research in Motion Blackberry company, this bodes well for the Pocket PC world.

If we can’t have our Blackberrys, we will have our Palms and Pocket PCs. A burgeoning market demand for these units is on the horizon if final judgement is found against RIM.

Which means more excellent PDA games, of course, as Pocket PC and Palm game developers cope to keep with anticipated increased demand.

Of course, most of us will be chomping at the bit until this occurs.

Anyway, you’ll have to excuse me. A new bowling game release awaits patiently on my iPAQ 4150.

Hopefully, the elusive 300 game is within reach today.

The Most Dangerous Place in the World - Right Here In America

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

To answer this great scourge of death with the bible is to begin with the premise that everyone believes that the bible has something to say about it and that it is authoritative. For those who have put the bible on the shelf with literature, simple narrative, history or fiction this premise is futile. Others who think the bible is a book of nice little morality stories that may be inspired in spots, are left to hope that that may get enough inspiration to spot the spots.

It is doubtful that a person who has disregarded the book of life will take any further cues from nature or simple humanity. In general animals don’t recklessly destroy their offspring. In all but the most backward civilizations of the world most of humanity also frowns on the destruction of their own young. If a people ignore the guides, and warnings available to us all, the bible has little chance of turning on any lights for them.
Yet, that in no way can eliminate the fact that the bible has plenty to say about it.

Both the bible and other annals of history show us that it was considered a blessing to be able to have children. In fact a woman who was barren was usually thought to be nearly under a curse. Times have changed and in America, Roe V. Wade has not just changed the times but has twisted it into a warp. Now it is considered almost a rude interference to be pregnant.

Science has provided us with a “scientific term” that makes it easy not to see a human life from the moment of conception, that handy little term is what is known as the “fetus”. Semantic wrangling notwithstanding everyone knows fully that a human life has begun at the point of conception not a scientific anomaly. Neither science nor legislation can erase the ache of conscience; it can only divert it for a while or provide a flimsy excuse for the self indulgent to dote over until a day of reckoning.

Those who don’t hide behind scientific words like “fetus” are prone to adopting the common wisdom of the day to provide them with excuses like, I have no education or I haven’t enough money to bring a child into the world. Since education has only peaked in the last one hundred years you’ve got to wonder how the world’s civilizations made it up to now without perishing under the weight of pure universal ignorance. Since great warriors, emperors, presidents, statesmen, philosophers, doctors, writers and others have come from great poverty; it would seem that the poverty excuse is also moot.
Without getting all bogged down in “thou shalt nots” what does the bible have to say about abortion? It says that God knows us before we are born; He knows you’re going to be born, the day of your birth, and the day of your death. He even knows how many hairs you’ve got on your head at anytime. Matthew 10:30

The Prophet Isaiah told of a Persian King named Cyrus that would come in time and order the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. Isaiah 44:28 No big deal until you discover the fact that Isaiah made this prediction over a hundred years before Cyrus was born. Does God know a human life is in the womb? Yes, and don’t worry just like Cyrus he doesn’t think your name is Fetus, He knows exactly what your name is and He always did, figuratively speaking even before you were only a twinkle in your fathers eye.

One of the most well known figures in the bible is King David. The historicity of the life and reign of David is without question among bible believers and most all others as well. But did you know that David said that God knew him long before his birth or his reign over Israel? In fact David said that God knew him while he was still in his mother’s womb Psalm 139:13. Whew, thank God He didn’t mistake David for just a “fetus”.

Let’s go one step further to make the point. That God knows us from the womb is one thing but here is another. The most precious thing God could ever endow someone with is his own presence. He does not put his Holy Spirit on anything that is not holy. He does not put His Spirit on anything that is not human either. Yet the Bible says that He put his Holy Spirit on John the Baptist while he was still in his mother’s womb. Luke 1:15 God didn’t put his Spirit on a “fetus” it was a human, good thing God knew that, too bad we don’t.

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is a reward. Psalm 127:3
